History of the BAIUST Global Affairs Council (BGAC)

The BAIUST Global Affairs Council (BGAC) stands as one of the most prominent student organizations dedicated to diplomacy, leadership, international relations, and Model United Nations activities. Since its establishment in 2018, the Council has consistently worked to develop globally competent students through academic engagement, diplomatic simulations, leadership programs, and international collaboration.

Foundation and Early Development (2018–2020)

The Council was founded in Fall 2018 under the leadership of its founding President, Raihan Abdullah, with the vision of creating a platform where students could develop diplomatic skills, leadership abilities, and global awareness through participation in Model United Nations conferences and other international academic platforms. During this early phase, the Council began participating in national and international MUN conferences, laying a strong institutional foundation and establishing its reputation within the MUN community.

Resilience and Continuity During Global Challenges (2020–2022)

During the tenure of the second executive committee, led by President Md. Shadman Sharar, the world faced the COVID-19 pandemic, which temporarily slowed the Council’s physical activities and events. Despite these challenges, the Council maintained its organizational structure, communication networks, and international connections. This period was marked by organizational resilience, internal development, and strategic preparation for future expansion.

Expansion and Institutional Growth (2022–2024)

Under the leadership of President Md. Rafi Bin Hasnat, the Council entered a period of significant growth and expansion. It increased its participation in national and international Model United Nations conferences and achieved record levels of participation. One of the most significant milestones during this period was the organization of the first BAIUST Intra Model United Nations in 2024, marking the Council’s transition from a participating organization to a conference-hosting institution. This achievement strengthened the Council’s institutional capacity, leadership structure, and organizational reputation.
