Overview

The Department of Law started its journey in 2019. The importance of Law for the development and progress of society and the need for specialists in the field has become obvious in our daily lives. BAIUST acknowledges this importance and has therefore introduced the Department of Law by giving all academic, financial, and administrative support to the department.

The Department of Law seeks to develop in its students the skills necessary to serve the profession’s changing needs in an increasingly diverse, global, and technologically dependent society. The Department makes concerted endeavors with the capacity of rational and conscientious responses through legal and practical studies by introducing modernized undergraduate courses. The curriculum of the department has been prepared as per OBE standard with essential and modern highly significant steps and motivated to set up a centre of excellence for legal studies which not only addresses and provides meaningful solutions for pressing ground realities but is capable of offering International Standard Legal Education, research and analysis which is in tune with the latest development in these fields in legal studies.

The Department has developed both curriculum and teaching methodology with a blend of practical and theoretical aspects of legal education aiming to be pro-people, based on the needs of the society, and responsive to the aspirations of the people. The Department of Law is committed to providing quality education and also strives to instill moral values into the students. Law is much more than principles and provisions is about justice, equity, and fairness as well as the values around which societies organize themselves through orderly institutions. The core objective of the Department of Law is to provide students with training in the basic skills essential for every lawyer; including analysis, research, writing & advocacy skills, training, problem-solving, mooting, simulation etc. Besides the traditional methods of teaching, the Department adopts seminar methods, wherein weekly discussions on contemporary legal issues are organized. Promising scholars are invited to interact with faculty and students. Further, the Department intends to engage the eminent jurists and brilliant legal minds of the country and beyond to contribute towards establishing a center of excellence in the field of legal studies in Bangladesh. Therefore, it builds the students of law as informed and morally sound citizens who will contribute to the development of the country.

The Department of Law maintains close nexus with local bench and bar members and facilitates the students’ regular visits to the court proceedings. There is a Moot court, a Computer Lab, and a good collection of reading materials (both Books and Journals) in the Law Section of the Library. Successful law graduates from the Department of Law can join diverse areas of the job market, such as; judicial service, legal practitioners, University Teaching, Banks, NGOs, corporate houses, development activists, human rights defenders, compliance specialists, staff members at UN agencies like UNHCR, UNDP, UNEP, WFP, UNICEF, UNESCO, ILO.

Program Details

Bachelor of LAW

Inducting the watchword of Knowledge, wisdom and technology, BAIUST has introduced the Department of Law in March, 2019. The program includes two semesters (each semester of 6 months) in an academic year. Therefore, the whole program can be completed in 8 semesters (i.e. 4 years). It contains 140 credits in total. During the span of time students will be able to analyze, research, writing & advocacy skills, training, problem-solving, mooting, simulation etc. The Department of Law clasps the practice of Outcome Based Education (OBE). The educational norm concentrates on installing distinct standards for observable and measurable outcomes. The newly formed curriculum by the Law Department has started from Spring-2022 and subsequent. With the demand of the OBE process further modifications will be taken into place in the curriculum through Continuous Quality Improvements. Program’s educational objectives are
