The Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) at BAIUST holds a prominent position among the country’s educational institutions. It boasts state-of-the-art lab facilities and a dedicated team of faculty members who are passionate about their field. Currently, the fourteenth batch of students is thriving and excelling in their academic pursuits.
The department is committed to delivering quality services and facilities to ensure that students are exposed to the latest technology trends. Recognizing the rapid global advancement of technology and its impact on national economies, the department emphasizes industry-oriented learning as an effective mechanism for strengthening educational outcomes. Consequently, the Department of CSE at BAIUST actively collaborates with industry professionals from both national and international spheres.
Through successful partnerships with the Bangladesh Open-Source Network (BdOSN) and the ICT division of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, the department has organized a series of programs, seminars, camps, and workshops. The BdOSN chapter at BAIUST works closely with the Department of CSE to foster industry-oriented learning, build problem-solving capabilities, and promote interactive collaboration with ICT experts. These initiatives contribute to the department’s journey toward becoming a center of excellence in innovation and research and development (R&D).
The department takes pride in its achievements thus far and remains confident in its ability to reach even greater heights in the future.
The Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) offers a 4-year B.Sc. course with a total of 154 credit hours. In addition to the conventional courses, the program includes some contemporary courses such as Web Technologies, Cloud Computing, Machine Learning, and Internet of Things. It also covers some inter-departmental courses such as Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Commerce, Humanities, Language, and Human Communication. These courses will help students to diversify their understanding of associated subjects.
Besides, one integrated design project and one capstone project are also included in the syllabus to help students develop technical, soft, and professional skills. Moreover, to achieve program-specific accreditation from the Board of Accreditation for Engineering and Technical Education (BAETE), the courses are designed with the Outcome Based Education (OBE) approach so that fresh graduates are duly prepared for jobs after completing the Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and Engineering (B. Sc. in CSE). The curriculum is already approved by the University Grant Commission (UGC). The newly designed OBE-based curriculum will be applicable to all students admitted in Spring-2022 and onwards. As part of the OBE process, in the future, further modifications shall be incorporated into the curriculum through Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI).
