BAIUST Electrical Engineering (EEE) students visited Chandpur Combined Cycle Power Plant
For a young Electrical Engineer who is pursuing B.Sc. degree, he or she must undergo adequate industrial experience. Keeping this in mind, the BAIUST EEE Department has arranged a day-long industrial visit.
On December 21, 2024, some senior faculty members and the 3rd year and 4th year students of BAIUST EEE Department went to visit Chandpur 150 MW Combined Cycle Power Plant (CCCPP), which is operated by Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB).
This power plant primarily uses natural gas from Bakhrabad Gas Field as its fuel source, which is utilized by a gas turbine, and generates 100 MegaWatt electric power at 15 KiloVolts. In addition, CCCPP can generate extra 50 MegaWatt electric power at 11 KiloVolts, by utilizing a steam turbine.
The entire Chandpur Combined Cycle Power Plant is operated and maintained 24/7 by highly expert engineers employed by BPDB. The engineers explained the whole power plant operation process in brief, and helped the BAIUST students during their field visit in the plant area.
This day-long visit to the power plant greatly benefitted the BAIUST EEE students, whom we consider as “future Electrical Engineers under training”. The students gained direct field experience and practical knowledge about combined cycle power plant operation.
These type of industrial experiences will continue to help the students, if they also aspire to become PDB engineers someday, after their graduation.
